Darwin is arguably the most popular and influential biologist ever. Darwin's ideas on evolution are taught in every single biology classroom around the world, Darwin noticed similarities between all species around the globe, which indicated that all of these species had evolved from a common ancestor. Darwin's most well-known theory was called natural selection. The rules of natural selection states that those who successfully adapted to meet the changing requirements of their natural habitat thrived, while those that failed to evolve and reproduce died off. The rules of natural selection state that only the strong shall prevail. This is where Taylor's ideas in The Artificial Ape come in.

Darwin's basic theory on evolution declares that only the strong shall prevail. Taylor completely reverses this statement, saying that if the strongest prevail, then how did humans rise to the top? There are seven great species of ape in the world. Six of these species live in nature. Humans would die without the necessary tools such as fire, shelter, and clothing. Taylor believes that we humans are the weakest of any species of ape. Humans have no fur, cannot survive in nature without tools and technology, and are unable to live unaided until years after birth. How did humans become so powerful? The answer, our relationship with objects. At some point, we as humans were introduced to the simplest objects, which allowed for our brains to grow and develop even better objects. Humans shed their fur because they had access to clothes. Being weakest in strength and natural ability hasn’t stopped the human race from controlling the world. Humans weakness in strength is made up for in the ability to have a larger brain that can help develop better tools. Darwin's theory of natural selection with finches relates to beak size and what type of the food the finch has to eat in nature. A monumental change happened when cooked and raw foods became the diet of an ancestor of humans, causing an evolution in the human skull and jaw to something more similar to that of a modern day human.
